Stay Skincare Safe this Summer

Stay Skincare Safe this Summer

Summer is here and with it comes a change in temperature and weather, which can have a huge impact your skin. This means skincare routines may need to change a little. Whilst it's always a good idea to protect your skin from UV rays all year round, it's particularly important during the summer when UV levels are at their highest.

It's always a good idea to focus on SPF protection and moisture as the sun's rays are at their strongest at this time of year. We’ve put together a definitive list of skincare tips to make sure you keep cool, stay safe and look great.

Think about Zinc.

Not just any old mineral. Zinc is essential for cell growth & renewal and also offers a number of impressive benefits for skin. It's one of the key ingredients in our Sun Protect Serum - SPF 50 because it acts as a physical shield to protect skin from UVA and UVB light. It's even been shown to improve the symptoms of acne and rosacea in large doses! Zinc is a safe ingredient and well tolerated by those with sensitive skin meaning that it's suitable for everyone.

Want even more Zinc? Alongside topical applications, eating a diet rich in zinc can provide the body with support to help repair and balance the skin. Some good sources include red meat, poultry, oysters, beans, nuts, and dairy products.

FIT Sun Protect Serum - SPF 50 is a ground-breaking, technologically advanced sunscreen that delivers water resistant, broad-spectrum SPF 50 protection whilst repairing and moisturising skin. Safe invisible protection for your face every day, rain or shine. Click below to find out more.

Why Choose a Higher SPF?

SPF (sun protection factor) measures the protection from UVB rays, the rays that cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer. SPF 50 blocks approximately 98% of UVB rays and gives you 50x protection from the sun that your skin naturally provides, so a smaller amount of damaging UVB rays are able to penetrate and damage your skin than lower SPFs. In contrast an SPF 15 only blocks 93% of UVB radiation, or 15x protection from the sun your skin naturally provides.

Although it only seems like a small difference, over a lifetime it all adds up. If you're extra sensitive to sunlight or have any history of skin cancer, every little bit of protection helps!

Remember: Even though it's a higher amount of protection it's still important to apply your SPF 50 as often as you would a lower SPF to ensure your skin is continuously protected throughout the day.

Serum Season.

With hotter temperatures, we tend to sweat more, and if we’re covered in heavy moisturisers this can cause a build-up of product, leading to clogged pores and outbreaks. This is where serums come in, they make the perfect summer-season companion as they’re packed full of antioxidants and skin-loving actives and won’t sit on the skin like heavy creams and oils.

For an extra hit of cool, try storing products in the fridge for a refreshing moisture hit! Or, go a step further and freeze your serum in ice-cube trays and use the cubes to do a homemade version of a cryo massage. It helps to improve skin tone and is perfect for an instant blast of cool.

Stay Hydrated!

This one should go without saying but it's very easy to forget and lots of people do! Make sure to drink water throughout the day. If you’re on the go, bring a water bottle and container of fresh fruit to prevent dehydration.

Don't Forget.

When it's cloudy many people assume they're not at risk of damage from sun exposure. However this isn't the case! 90% of the sun's rays can penetrate through clouds. Come sun or cloud, when applying sunscreen, it's recommended to use 2-3 tablespoons of product per application to ensure full protection.
